Dr. Troy Ogden

Dr. Troy Ogden wants to make a difference in people's lives and absolutely lights up when interacting with others. So, on the eve of his 30th birthday — when he found himself in a cubicle, doing technical phone support for a company that made precision fluid measuring devices — he knew something had to change.

Then, as luck would have it, his dad’s glasses broke.

The subsequent visit to an optometrist for a repair set in motion a series of events that led Dr. Ogden to choose a new career, enroll in optometry school, sell his Reno home and move to Columbus, Ohio with his wife. That was 2005.

In 2018, Dr. Ogden and Dr. Cardona became co-owners of Downtown Vision.

To get here, Dr. Ogden completed a Bachelor of Science in Nutrition Science from the University of Nevada, Reno (the third generation of his family to attend UNR, he proudly notes) and earned a Doctor of Optometry from The Ohio State University, College of Optometry in Columbus.

After graduating from optometry school, Dr. Ogden worked for a retail eyeglass center in Columbus. While it provided great experience, it helped crystalize what he wanted in his optometry career — time with patients to develop meaningful relationships. He wanted a practice, not a storefront.

Nevadans at heart, Dr. Ogden and his wife moved back to Reno in 2013 to raise their girls and build their careers near family. Dr. Ogden knew he wanted to run his own practice, and fate brought him and Dr. Ed Angelini together. They shared the same philosophy of patient care as priority — if you take good care of your patients, everything else takes care of itself.

Dr. Ogden is in his element chatting and interacting with his patients. He delights in the smiles of patients when they see themselves in striking new eyeglasses or see clearly for the first time with contact lenses (he specializes in difficult contact lens fits). He works to create a positive experience and enhance his patients’ well-being at every visit.

Dr. Ogden married his college sweetheart Terri. They have two daughters, two rescue beagles, a rescue golden retriever, and a rescue cat; in other words, their home is filled with hair. He volunteers with community service vision groups, offering free eye exams when he can. In his free time, Dr. Ogden enjoys golf, traveling, family get-togethers, and fine craft brews.
